Mrs. Elisa Lantz, whose maiden name was Freiden was born March 23, 1856 and died at her home east of this city, Thursday, April 2, 1903, and was at the time of her death about 47 years of age. October 18, 1877 she was united in marriage to John Lantz [sic Joel Lantz] and to this union three children, Willie, John and Celia, came to brighten the home.
Some time ago Mrs. Lantz was taken with a severe cold which soon developed into pneumonia, and this, combined with a weak heart culminated in death. In her daily life she was upright and her womanly character drew about her and made friends of all with whom she came in contact. She was a true wife and good mother.
Besides the sorrowing husband and children she leaves five brothers: Fred, John, Samuel, Frank and Ben Freiden, and three sisters, Mrs. Mary Bohannan, Mrs. Anna Schneider and Mrs. Salome Thoman, and a large number of friends to mourn the loss of this truly good woman.
The funeral services were held from the Dunkard church Sunday afternoon and interment was made in the church cemetery. A large concourse of friends attended the body to its last resting place.
A light is from our household gone,
A voice we loved is stilled,
A place is vacant in our home,
Which never can be filled. We cannot tell who next may fall,
Beneath thy chastening rod,
One must be first but let us all,
Prepare to meet our God.~Elgin Echo, April 4, 1903
