Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Valdean Lange, age 61, of Elkader, Iowa, were held Monday, May 17, 1999 at 10:30 a.m. at Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader, Iowa with Rev. Ed Brady officiating. Honorary pallbearers were Present and Past School Bus Drivers of Central Community School District. Casket bearers were Don Bauwens, Dennis Christeleit, Tim Dillon, Jerry Everitt, Duane Klink, Dennis O'Brien, Mark Stannard, and Kenny Weber. Burial was in the Cass Township Cemetery, Strawberry Point, Iowa.
Valdean Charles Lange, son of Leland and Mabel (Seeland) Lange, was born November 15, 1937 in Mederville, Iowa in Clayton County. He was raised and educated in the area, graduating from the Elkader High School in 1956. He was baptized on October 2, 1938 and confirmed on March 29, 1953, both at the Peace United Church of Christ. Valdean was united in marriage to Patricia Kuehl on June 6, 1958 at Elkader, Iowa. They had four children. Valdean and Pat spent their married life farming together. Valdean drove school bus for Central Community School District for forty years. He enjoyed bowling, family picnics, helping neighbors, and going for walks with his dog, Oscar.
Valdean Charles Lange died Thursday, May 13, 1999 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa following a sudden illness. He was preceded in death by his parents, his father and mother-in-law, a sister-in-law, Mardell Homewood and a brother-in-law, Don Minkler.
Valdean is survived by his wife, Pat of Elkader, Iowa; 2 daughters, Debbie (Jon) Sylvester of Elkader, Iowa and Dawn Lange (special friend Ed Forsythe) of Edgewood, Iowa, and 2 sons, Kent (Sherri) Lange and Kurt Lange, both of Elkader, Iowa; 4 grandchildren, Shane Sylvester, Ryan Sylvester, and Tyler Sylvester, all of Elkader, Iowa, and Autumn Lange of Strawberry Point, Iowa; a half-sister, Betty Minkler of Shellsburg, Iowa; 4 brothers in-law, Lawrence (Betty) Kuehl of Edgewood, Iowa, Dale (Alice) Kuehl of Austin, Texas, Doug (Joyce) Kuehl of Princeton, Missouri, and Robert Homewood of Rockwell City, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Barb (Ron) Peake of Farmersburg, Iowa and many nieces and nephews.
