Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Alvin Julius Baumbach, age 78, were held at 2 p.m. Monday, May 19 at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa with the Rev. Terry Hudson officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery with military rites accorded by Leslie H. Smith American Legion Post #519. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of the arrangements. Casket bearers were Dave Holroyd, Lyle Pale, Bernell Kliefoth, Dean Schultz, Tom Wilke, and Dan Schweikert.
Alvin Julius Baumbach, son of Julius and Elizabeth (Stegemeyer) Baumbach, was born August 26, 1918 in Sparta, Wisconsin. He served in the U.S. Army. On June 6, 1946 Alvin married Dorothy Van Brocklin at Our Savior's Lutheran Church in Lansing, Iowa. He was employed by Sawyer Saw Mill for 30 years and also self-employed as a woodworker, Alvin was a member of Leslie H. Smith American Legion Post #519.
Alvin Julius Baumbach died Thursday, May 15, 1997 in Trivilla Nursing Home in New Brighton, Minnesota. He was preceded in death by his parents, and his wife who died on December 26, 1993.
He is survived by his daughter, Amber (Dan) Sutton of Blaine, Minnesota; his mother-in-law, Loretta Van Brocklin of Waukon, Iowa; 2 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Harold Baumbach of Genoa, Wisconsin, and Jerry Baumbach of Des Moines, Iowa; and 1 sister, Shirley Logan of Quasqueton, Iowa.
