Ewald Charles Frederick Brandt, son of Frederick and Wilhelmina (Meyer) Brandt, was born February 10, 1914 in Clayton County, Iowa. He died July 29, 1994 in Palmer Lutheran Health Center at West Union at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 19 days.

Ewald was a life-long member of St. Paul Lutheran Church through baptism and confirmation. He was a graduate of Postville High School.

On March 5, 1937, he married Lois Turner and the couple farmed three miles south of Postville until 1974 when they moved to Postville.

Surviving are his wife, Lois, three sons, Fred and his wife Geri, of Evergreen, Colorado, Robert and his wife Elizabeth, of Postville, Roland James and his wife Sherry, of West Bloomfield, Michigan, three daughters, P. Jean Nelson, of Hibbing, Minnesota, June and her husband Steve Weis, of Osage, Iowa, Beverly and her husband Dennis Madison of Lincoln, Nebraska, twenty-three grandchildren and ten great grandchildren.

Ewald was preceded in death by his parents, a daughter, Belva (Mrs Harley) Radloff, a son-in-law, Francis Nelson, two grandsons, three sisters, Clara Haefner, Leora Plaht, and Delia Meyer, and two brothers, Roland and Harlan.

Ewald has been active on the boards of St. Paul Lutheran Church, the Farmers Coop Creamery, the Farm Bureau, and the Farmers Coop Society for 35 years. He was also a director for MVMPA (now Swiss Valley) and DHIA. He is a lifetime member of the Brown Swiss Association, both state and national. He was named Iowa Distinguished Dairyman in 1968 and Honorary Member of the Iowa State University Dairy Science Club in 1975.
