Funeral services for Leslie Vernon Smith, age 76, were held Thursday, October 20 at 10:30 a.m. in the Community Presbyterian Church in Postville, Iowa. Leslie was a member of this church. The Rev. Karin L. Brown officiated. Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa was in charge of arrangements. Interment was in the Postville Cemetery. Casket bearers were
Ewald Walch, Loren Walch, Verdon Swenson, Keith Kishman, Cloy Kuhse, and Marvin Mohs.

Leslie Vernon Smith, son of Leighton Earl and Carrie (Swenson) Smith, was born October 12, 1918 at Ridley, near Luana, Iowa. Leslie attended the school at Luana, Iowa. At the age of 12 years old, he began farming with his mother and his grandfather, Cassius P. Smith. On February 14, 1940 he was married to Jessie Georgina Ella Schultz in the St. John Lutheran Church at Luana, Iowa. To this union five children were born. The couple farmed in the Postville, Iowa area. Jessie passed away December 19, 1963. Leslie married Harriet Louise (Baumann) Angen on November 27, 1971 at Waterloo, Iowa. They lived on the farm in Postville Township, Allamakee County, Iowa. In 1978 they moved to Luana, Iowa. Leslie had also sold New Concepts feed for Jerry Scheffert. He had been a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa for almost two years.

Leslie Vernon Smith died Monday, October 17, 1994 in the Good Samaritan Center at Postville, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, his two wives, Jessie and Harriet, a son, John Smith who died in 1976, a sister, Adeline Enyart,and a nephew Russell Enyart, Jr.

Leslie is survived by 3 sons, Leighton (Linda) Smith of Postville, Iowa, Richard Smith also of Postville, Iowa, and Eric Smith of Waterville, Iowa; a daughter, Kathleen Smith of Luana, Iowa; 6 grandchildren, David Brainard, Debra Moellers, Brenda Brainard, Gayla Smith, Cory smith, and Josh Smith; 6 step-grandchildren, Kristen Guilford, Lindsey Guilford, David Angen, Stephen Angen, Mike Angen, Mark Angen; and a special niece, Nola (Enyart) Palmer of Monona, Iowa.

NOTE: Cassius P. Smith was married to Lucy Webb, daughter of Herman and Rozilla (Dresser) Webb of Postville, Iowa.
