Funeral services for Marilyn A. Pape, age 75, of Luana, Iowa were held Thursday, August 4 at St. John Lutheran Church, Luana, Iowa. The Rev. Harold McMillin officiated. Burial followed in the St. John Lutheran Church Cemetery in Luana. Leonard-Grau Funeral Home and Cremation Service of Monona, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Marilyn Ann, daughter of Arno and Helen (Kurdelmeyer) Dickman, was born February 22, 1936 on the family farm east of Monona, Iowa. She was baptized March 11, 1936 at her parent's home by Rev. H.W. Siefkes and was confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa on May 28, 1950 by Rev. R. C. Schlueter. Marilyn attended country grade school for four and a half years until her parents moved into Monona, Iowa in 1946. She graduated from the Monona High School in 1954. After high school she worked at the Union State Bank for three years and then the Luana Savings Bank for nine years. Marilyn was united in marriage to Gerald Leonard Pape on October 9, 1955 at St. Paul Lutheran church in Monona, Iowa. She married the "boy down the street" and they made their home in Monona. They eventually built a home in Luana. In 1961 they purchased a farm north of Luana where they raised their family of six children and enjoyed their later years.

Marilyn farmed with her husband for 30 years along with caring for their children and running the farm business. They milked cows, raised hogs, raised beef cattle, and farmed crops while enjoying the beautiful Hickory Creek valley. In 1991 she rejoined the workforce when she became a bookkeeper and secretary at Lowell's Electric where she was employed for 13 years. She held the City Clerk job in Luana for three years until her retirement in 2008.

Marilyn was a faithful and devoted wife, mother, grandma and great-grandma. Her greatest joy was her family and supporting them throughout the years. She enjoyed living in the country, flowers of all kinds, feeding the birds, watching the wildlife in her yard, gardening, cooking, playing cards, and spending time with her family, friends, and neighbors. Marilyn enjoyed watching the Hawkeyes, Chicago Cubs, and the Minnesota Vikings. She was known as a gracious host to all who came and welcomed everyone to her home and table. She was famous for her wonderful hospitality and cooking, especially her homemade pies and cinnamon rolls. She was loved by all for her generosity, patience, cheerful disposition, kindness, and her devotion to God and her family.

Marilyn A. Pape passed away Saturday, July 30, 2011 at her home after a courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents, her beloved husband, Gerald in 1991; a daughter, Susan Pape who died in 1964; a brother Duane Dickman, and 3 brothers-in-law, Lorenz Pape, Lyle Pape, and Gaylord G.
