Contributor: Connie Ellis (not related)Funeral services for Everett "Pete" Drahn were held Wednesday, August 14, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Pastor Terry Hudson officiated. Active pallbearers were his grandchildren. Honorary pallbearers were Bob Drahn, Virgil Kaiser, Glenn Drahn, Emmett Trappe, Reuben Hoth, Wesley Lange, Ken Krambeer, Dean Krambeer, Jim Middendorf, Leo Steiert, LeRoy Hoth, Malin Schultz, Lawrence Geisler, Bill Gentz, and Chris Drahn. Burial was in St. Paul's Lutheran Cemetery, Schultz Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa was charge of the services.
Everett Arno Henry Drahn, son of Fred and Emilie (Kaiser) Drahn, was born June 8, 1913, 3 miles south of Monona, Iowa in Clayton County. He was baptized on June 29, 1913 by Rev. Otto Wappler and confirmed on August 28, 1927 by Rev. Daugs. Everett graduated from Monona High School excelling in football, basketball, and wrestling. He attended Upper Iowa University. On June 17, 1936 he was united in marriage to Myrtle Gilson at St. John's Lutheran Church at Waukon, Iowa.
In 1936 he purchased the Grand Cafe and the Sinclair Station. He founded and operated Drahn Implement in the basement of his building in 1941. In 1966 the business was moved to a new building which he built at the south edge of town. His brother Erwin Drahn and Glen Crain joined the company as partners. Everett was a member of the Monona School Board and spent many hours in the purchasing of the ground where the athletic fields and pool are now located. Pete was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and served as financial secretary for many years, was a council member and helped with counting the money on Monday morning. He belonged to the National Arbor Day Association and National Widlife.
Everett "Pete" Drahn died August 11, 1991 at the Gundersen Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, 4 brothers, Walter Drahn, Erwin Drahn, Elwin Drahn, and Glendor Drahn; 3 sisters, Edna Henkes, Laura Nugent, and Eileen McWhortor; and a son-in-law, Richard Orvis.
Everett is survived by his wife, Myrtle Drahn; 3 daughters, Karen Orvis of Elkader, Iowa, Linda (Lanny) Scheffert of Monona, Iowa, and Susan (Dan) Hanson of Maple Grove, Minnesota; 9 grandchildren, and 6 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Sophia Lange of Postville, Iowa and Aloha Drahn of Chicago, Illinois, and a brother, Lloyd Drahn of Farmersburg, Iowa.
