Mrs. Marvin Berse, age 42, of Chatfield, Minn., died at her home April 16, after an illness of two years. Funeral services were held at St. Joseph's Church, Elkader, on April 19 and burial in St. Joseph's cemetery. The services were conducted by the Monsignor Gorman and casket bearers were Kenneth Meyer, T.E. Ryan and Arthur Swenson of Chatfield and Loren Frommelt, Valmah Gossman and Herbert Kaschkowsky of Elkader.
Relatives from a distance who attended the funeral were, Mrs. George Patton of Evansdale, Ind., Mr. and Mrs. Leo Hanson and Tara of Algona, Adolph Hanson family of Cedar Rapids, Mr. and Mrs. Richard Kohnen of Dubuque, besides a host of relatives and friends from Chatfield, Minn., West Bend, Elgin, Oelwein, Waterloo, Clermont, Duqubuq, West Union, Garnavillo and Volga.
During the last six months of her illness she and her family were lovingly cared for by her aunt, Mrs. Celia Thoman, of Elgin.
Lucille Mary, daughter of Lydia and the late Adolph Hanson, was born March 2, 1919 at Elgin. She was married to Otto Doeppke, jr of Elkader on August 29, 1941. He was killed in action April 5, 1944 while serving with the Army Air Corps. One child, Teddie Lu Doeppke was born to this union.
Mrs. Doeppke was re-married on Feb. 18, 1951 to Marvin Berse at Elkader, who survives. They lived in Clayton county until five years ago when they moved to Chatfield. Two children were born to this union, Denise Ann and Jane Mary. Also surviving are three sisters: Mrs. Ora Olson (Edna), St. Olaf; Mrs. Adolph Elvers (Lola), Elkader; Mrs. George Petton (Marjorie), Evansville, Ind.; four brothers, Leo of Algona, Harry and Aden of Elkader and Adolph of Cedar Rapids.
