Funeral services were held for Alonzo "Lonnie" H. Engelhardt, age 77, on Friday, May 31, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, Iowa. Pastor William Palmquist officiated at the service with burial in the Norway Lutheran Cemetery. Pallbearers were his grandsons Brad Thurn and Chris Engelhardt in absentia, Mark Engelhardt, Kevin Engelhardt, Jeff Engelhardt, Ryan Engelhardt, Kirk Van Kirk * as listed in the newspaper * and Jerry Rohach.

Alonzo, son of Frank and Ella (Klasen) Engelhardt, was born September 12, 1913 in Wagner Township near St. Olaf, Iowa. He was baptized at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg and confirmed at Norway Lutheran Church in rural St. Olaf. He received his education at St. Olaf School. On December 5, 1935 he was united in marriage to B. Adelia Embretson. To this union three children were born. Alonzo was a farmer in Wagner Township. He was also the custodian at the Norway Lutheran Church for over 40 years. At the time of his retirement he continued to live on the home farm where he enjoyed gardening.

Alonzo died at Mercy Medical Center in Cedar Rapids, Iowa on Monday evening, May 27, 1991 from injuries resulting from an automobile accident. He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother Wendell Engelhardt and his sister Ervey Elvers.

He is survived by his wife, Adelia; their children, Duane (Norma) Engelhardt of Springfield, New Jersey, Phyllis (Harlan) Thurn of St. Olaf, Iowa, and James (Patricia) Engelhardt of Wauwatosa, Wisconsin; 9 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren.
