Funeral services for Harley Lloyd Hermann were held Wednesday, May 1 at 2:00 p.m. in Farmersburg at the St. John Lutheran Church with Pastor Ben Davis officiating. Burial was in the Monona, Iowa City Cemetery. Honorary pallbearers were Vernon Glawe, Bernell Glawe, Maurice Powers, Curtis Staff, Don Montgomery, Carl Schmidt, Lloyd Amundson, Harold Krambeer, and Rueben Bluhm. Active pallbearers were Paul Christianson, Brett Wright, Dale Hermann, Steve Christianson, Alan Furlong, and Tom Furlong. Military services were conducted by the St. Olaf American Legion Post #388 and Monona AmVets Post #27. Schultz Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa was in charge of services.

Harley Lloyd Hermann, son of Gottfried and Anna (Knappe) Hermann was born July 16, 1920 in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He was the third son of seven children. He was baptized and confirmed at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Waverly, Iowa on May 8, 1949 by Rev. William F. Schmidt. He received his education in Wagner Twp. School and in Florida. Harley entered the United States Army and served in the Military Police Corp #677 in El Paso, Texas from 1942 to 1946. On April 16, 1949 Harley was united in marriage to Ethelyn Kurth in Farmersburg, Iowa by the Rev. R.H. Steege. To this union two children were born. The couple lived in Waverly, St. Olaf-Farmersburg, all Iowa areas and since 1972 in Monona, Iowa. Harley farmed near St. Olaf and trucked milk for many years. He also drove truck for Clayton County secondary road department until retiring in 1985. He was a member of the St. John Lutheran Church and served on the church council, St. Olaf and Farmersburg Fire Departments, Farmersburg town council, St. Olaf American Legion Post 388, Monona AmVets Post #27 and Disabled Veterans. Harley enjoyed outdoor activities, especially hunting and fishing. He also enjoyed being with his friends and helping friends in need.

Harley died Monday, April 29, 1991 at the Lutheran Hospital in LaCrosse, Wisconsin. Preceding him in death were his parents, 3 brothers, William Hermann, Arthur Hermann, and Lorimer Hermann, and 1 sister, Erna Possehl.

He is survived by his wife, Ethelyn; 1 daughter, Linda Rathe of Edgewood, Iowa and 1 son David (Dawn) Hermann of Walburg, North Carolina; 1 grandson, Zachary Hermann; 1 sister, Dorothy Furlong of Dubuque, Iowa and 1 brother, Ray Hermann of Gassville, Arkansas.
