Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Lester Staake were held Saturday, February 3 at 11:00 a.m. in the Marion Lutheran Church at Gunder, Iowa. Rev. William Palmquist officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville, Iowa handled the arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery in Gunder. Pallbearers were David Staake, Gary Staake, Larry Letchford, James Eno, Gene Rubendall, and Leon Letchford.
Lester "Bud" Staake, son of Marvin Joseph and Ruth Cecelia (Olson) Staake, was born July 6, 1928 in Marion Township, Clayton County, Iowa near Gunder, Iowa. He was baptized and confirmed in the Marion Lutheran Church in Gunder. He attneded the Vellersven School. He served in World War II. He farmed with his father. On October 22, 1947 he married Irma Butikofer. Irma died. On June 22, 1962 he married Lois Rubendall. Lester had been employed at Torkelson Motors in Elgin, Iowa as a mechanic.
He died Tuesday evening January 30, 1990 in Allen Memorial Hospital in Waterloo, Iowa. In addition to his first wife, Irma, he is preceded in death by two children, a son in infancy and an infant daughter, Lynette Staake.
Surviving are 2 sons, Lowell Staake and Loren Staake, both of Postville, Iowa; a daughter, Lisa Staake; 3 grandchildren; 2 brothers, Marvin Staake of Spirit Lake, Iowa and Roger Staake of St. Olaf, Iowa; a sister, Rachial of Hot Springs, Arkansas.
