Luther Heins
After a long and courageous battle with cancer the Lord took our beloved home.
Luther Heins, son of Fredrich and Anna (Nuehring) Heins, was born October 30, 1932 in Postville, IA. He was baptized December 17, 1932 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Postville by Rev. Garten. He was confirmed April 14, 1946 in St. Paul's Lutheran Church by Rev. Fredrick Ludwig. He received his education at Postville High School, graduating in 1950.
Luther was united in marriage to Dorothy Wagner on December 8, 1951 at the Luana Methodist Church. To this union four children were born.
Luther and his family farmed north of Luana for 24 years, moving to Monona in 1975, where they currently reside. He was employed at Three Rivers FS, Elkader, as a Petroleum Specialist. The last seven years he has worked for German Farmers Mutual as an Insurance Adjuster.
Luther passed away Wednesday, September 18, 1996 at Rochester Methodist Hospital, Rochester, MN, having attained the age of 63 years, 10 months, 18 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Anna and Fredrich; two sisters, Edna Eberling and Aurelia Schultz; and one brother, Harlan Heins.
He is survived by his wife, Dorothy; two sons, Jeffrey (Betty) Heins of Luana, IA and Jerome (Suzanne) Heins of Tavares, FL; two daughters, Amy Parnes and friend Wade Bickel of Walnut Creek, CA and Annette (Jim) Schmiechen of Broomfield, CO; nine grandchildren, Penny, Patricia, Candace and Crystal Heins; Tiffany, Tyler and Olivia Heins; and Ryan and Kendra Schmiechen; one great grandchild, Chanice Drahn-Heins; one brother, Rolan (Irene) Heins of Elkader, IA; two sisters, Romilda (Kenneth) Koth of Postville, IA, and Marcella Millerin of Forest Lake, MN; and a host of other relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Saturday, September 21, 1996 at Garden City United Methodist Church with Dr. Gary Dobbins officiating. Pallbearers were Steve Russett, Milo Heins, Richard Schultz, Carla Miles, Hilery Heins, Gwen Patrick, Bill Murphy, Keith Koth and Karlton Eberling. He was laid to rest at Monona City Cemetery, Monona. Schultz's Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of services.
