Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for William Frederickk Gentz, were held Satruday, January 25, 1992 at 2 p.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa with Rev. Ted Ager officiating. Pallbearers were his sons. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, was in charge of services.
William Frederick Gentz, son of William and Anna (Baltz) Gentz, was born January 3, 1918 in rural Luana, Iowa. He was baptized April 4, 1918 and confirmed April 9, 1933. He graduated from high school in 1935. Bill was a member of the Monona Historical Society, the Fraternal Order of Eagles at Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, and was a retiree of Dubuque Teamster Local #421. On May 29, 1943, Bill married Jean Francis Lestina. They had 11 children. He was employed 26 years as a truck driver for Ruan in Dubuque, Iowa before retiring in 1980. They moved to Monona in 1979 where they resided for the past 12 years, previously living in Dubuque for 28 years and prior to that in Giard, Iowa.
He died Wednesday, January 22, 1992 at Harris Methodist Hospital in Bedford, Texas. Preceding him in death were his parents; 3 sisters, Agnes Schulte, Rita Doerring, and Lou Ann George and a brother, Louis Gentz, who died in infancy.
William is survived by his wife, Jean; 6 sons, Gary Gentz of Arlington, Texas, Ronald Gentz of Davenport, Iowa, Dean Gentz of Belvidere, Illinois, Robert Gentz of Eldridge, Iowa, Steven Gentz of Lacey Springs, Alabama, and David Gentz of Grapevine, Texas; 5 daughters, Joyce Coolahan of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Mary Conzett of Dubuque, Iowa, Nancy Rommel of Bakersfield, California, Carol Gentz of Wailea, Hawaii, and Joan Tayek of Monona, Iowa; 10 grandchildren: Tom, Tim, Keri, C.J., Elizabeth, Brian, Erin, Kevin, Amanda, and Jonathan; 3 sisters, Mary Radloff of Chandler, Arizona, Hester McGuire of Cedar Rapids, Iowa, and Margie Leach of Hiawatha, Iowa.
