Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Curtis G. Olson were held Sunday, February 9, 1992, 1:00 p.m. at the Leonard-Witt Funeral Home, Elkader, Iowa. Mr. David Gilbert officiated. Interment was in the Wagner Township Cemetery, rural St. Olaf, Iowa. Casket bearers were Dan Schmidt, Todd Olson, Gerald Nesteby, Tim Olson, Bob Scherf, and Sheldon Olson. Leonard-Witt Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of arrangements.
Curtis was born January 22, 1904 to Ole and Ella (Sorum) Olson near Elkader, Iowa. He was raised and educated in the area attending rural school. He was married to Stella L. Sonstegard in 1934. One son was born to this union. Over the years Curtis did woodworking in the area until they started farming near St. Olaf, Iowa. He later did electrical work and telephone repair and installation in the St. Olaf area. Since March of 1986 Curtis has resided with his son, Leland and his wife, Norma of rural Farmersburg, Iowa.
After an extended illness Curtis died Thursday morning, February 6, 1992 at Finley Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. He was eighty-eight years of age. He was preceded in death by his wife, Stella on April 18, 1989 and by a brother Millard Olson.
Survivors include his son, Leland (Norma) Olson of Farmersburg, Iowa; 3 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren; and 4 sisters, Lenora Possehl and Gladys Baumgartner, both of Elkader, Iowa, Evelyn (Oscar) Possehl of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Esther Skibbe of San Diego, California.
