Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services were held Friday, December 6, 1991, 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic Church, Monona, Iowa for Peter John Platten. Con-Celebrants were Father Ray Burkle, Father James T. Chappell, and Father John Moran. Pallbearers were Kipi Platten, Duane Burkle, Pat Burkle, Gary Platten, Andy Jones, and Bret Jones. Honorary pallbearers were David Burkle and Jim Platten. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Cemetery in Monona, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
Peter John Platten, son of Adam and Hellen (Westling) Platten was born October 5, 1909 in Green Bay, Wisconsin. He attended school in Green Bay. On May 3, 1932 Peter was united in marriage to Julitta Hearter at Guttenberg, Iowa. He was employed at Huinker's Chevrolet until 1975 when he retired. He also farmed and did carpentry work. He resided at Farmersburg, Iowa for 25 years, at Harpers Ferry, Iowa for 8 years, and at Scotch Grove, Iowa for 10 years.
Peter died Tuesday, December 3, 1991 at Mercy Hospital in Dubuque, Iowa. Preceding him in death were his parents, his wife, Julitta, who died December 20, 1973; a grandson, Jeffrey Allen; 2 brothers, Frank Platten and Henry Platten; and a sister, Olive Sipple.
He is survived by 4 sons: Jerome Platten of Steuben, Wisconsin, Cyril Platten and Herbert Platten, both of Harpers Ferry, Iowa and Serenus Platten of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 3 daughters, Anna May (Louis) Burkle of Scotch Grove, Iowa, Bernadette (Ben) Jones of Cedar Rapids, Iowa and Ramona (Bill) Jones of Harpers Ferry, Iowa; 24 grandchildren and 25 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Anna Beaver of Dubuque, Iowa.
