Funeral services for Otmar Bruns were held Tuesday, June 18, 11 a.m. at St. Paul's Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa. Rev. Elwin Farwell officiated. Burial was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery in Monona. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of services. Pallbearers were Harold James, Delos Martins, Charles Wiedenmann, Elden Lenth, Virgil Thompson, and Alan Albrecht. Honorary pallbearers were Verni Kruse, Everett Drahn, Marvin Zittergruen, Ed Kruse, Carl Johanningmeier, Foster Koth, and Justus Kammerer.

Otmar Hubert Henry Bruns was born July 19, 1913 on a farm southwest of Monona, Iowa to Geroge and Amanda (Miller) Bruns. He was baptized August 17, 1913 by the Rev. Otto Wappler and confirmed August 28, 1927 by Rev. A. Daugs at St. Paul's Lutheran Church. He received his education in Evergreen Grove No. 5 Country School and Monona High School, graduating in 1931. On November 25, 1937 he married Florence Aulerich at St. Paul's Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. The couple had 2 sons. They farmed on Otmar's home farm for 27 years until moving to Monona in August 1964.

He was elected director of the Farmers Mutual Insurance Company of Garnavillo in April 1956 and later served as Vice-President. He sold his insurance business to Harold James in 1977. He was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church where he served several terms on the church council and 2 years as president of the congregation in addition to numerous church committees, the Clayton County ASC Board, Clayton County Artificial Breeding Association Board,, Commercial Club, Town Council and a 4-H leader for a number of years.

He died on Friday, June 14, 1991 at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his parents, and one brother Wilbert Bruns.

Surviving is his wife, Florence, 2 sons, Rev. Gary Bruns of Knippa, Texas and Brent Bruns of Monona, Iowa; and 5 grandchildren.
