Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Donald Moon were held Monday, August 12, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at St. John Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa. Pastor Ted Ager officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery, Monona, Iowa. Honorary pallbearers were Duane Lamker, Lawrence Linderbaum, Roger Mohning, Tony Mueller, Virgil Thompson, Tom Wagner, and Harlan Keehner. Active pallbearers were Dan Moon, Steve Moon, Keith Kutzbach, Dale Miller, Ron H. Miller, Dennis Moon, and Rick Moon. Schultz Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.
Donald Harry Moon was born August 20, 1927 on a farm south of Monona, Iowa to Earnest and Bertha (Lienau) Moon. He was baptized and confirmed at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg, Iowa. He attended country school south of Monona. On October 14, 1949 Don was united in marriage to Darlene Ames at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Don and Darlene farmed near Garnavillo, Iowa and near Luana until their retirement in 1990. They have lived in Monona since 1982.
Don died Thursday, August 8, 1991 at his home in Monona following a long illness due to cancer. He was an active member of St. John Lutheran Church in Luana. Preceding him in death were his parents and one sister, Ethel Miller.
Surviving are his wife, Darlene; 2 sons, Jim Moon of Charles City, Iowa, and Randy Moon of Cresco, Iowa and one daughter, Linda Veit of El Paso, Texas; 6 grandchildren, Jennifer and Jessica Moon of Charles City, Iowa, Nick and Sara Huinker of El Paso, Texas, Rachel Moon of Denver, Colorado and Max Shelton of Cresco, Iowa; 2 brothers, Vernice Moon of Monona, Iowa and Dwayne Moon of Luana, Iowa; and 2 sisters, Viola Brown of Las Vegas, Nevada and Shirley Kutzbach of Farmersburg, Iowa.
