Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Irving Schierholz were held Tuesday, May 27 at 2:00 p.m. at Schultz Funeral Home Monona, Iowa. Rev. Terry Hudson officiated. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements. Burial was in the Council Hill Cemetery, rural McGregor, Iowa with military rites accorded by the AmVets Post 27. Pallbearers were George Keehner, Wally Thein, Dave Torkelson, Jim Burger, Harold James, Eugene Nevermann, George Wilker, and Marilyn "Doc" Henderson. Honorary pallbearers were Denis Olson, Scott Hermann, Nick Eckert, Skeeter Davis, Bob Camardo, Gary Jelinek, Dennis Peterson, Scott Marfilius, Bill Marfilius, Dennis Suckow, and Steven Schierholz.
Irving Herman Edward Schierholz, son of Elzer William and Amanda Laura (Wirkler) Schierholz, was born May 24, 1910 in Monona Township, Clayton County, Iowa. He received his education at the Luana School. Irving was united in marriage to Iowa Ann Marie Wilkins on August 5, 1930 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, Iowa. He was self-employed as a carpenter, having been retired the past 20 years. He served in the Navy during World War II. He was a life member of the AmVets Post #27.
Irving died Friday, May 23, 1997 at Central Community Hospital at Elkader, Iowa. He was preceded in death by his parents, and two sisters, Melinda Reinhardt, and Helen Drebenstedt.
Survivors include his wife, Iowa; 1 son, Gerald (Barbara) Schierholz of Center Point, Iowa; 3 daughters, Beverly Suckow of Hudson, Iowa, Wanda (William) Check, and Fay (Lewis) Marfilius, all of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; 13 grandchildren: Steven Schierholz, Jeannine Schierholz, Dennis Suckow, Peggi Suckow, Vicki Olson, Brenda Herrman, Lynn Eckert, Joyce Davis, Cindy Jelinek, Deb Camardo, Scott Marfilius, Joan Peterson, and Bill Marfilius; 18 great-grandchildren; and 1 brother, Milton Schierholz of Postville, Iowa.
