Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Oliver Arthur Hustad were held Friday, January 10 at 10:30 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church, Elkader, Iowa. Rev. Jim Klosterboer officiated. Burial was in the East Side Cemetery, Elkader, Iowa. Leonard-Witt Funeral Home of Elkader was in charge of arrangements. Honorary casket bearers were Roy Ehrhardt, Don Houg, Ray Zanziger, Paul Grover, and Harold Seeland. Casket bearers were Steven Clausen, Morris "Bud" Eide, Ron Moen, Dennis Eberhardt, Dennis Freitag, and Roy Pady.
Oliver Arthur Hustad, known by most everyone as "Ollie" was born May 6, 1906 at Starbuck, Minnesota to Alfred and Sophie (Gorder) Hustad. He was raised and educated in the Starbuck area attending area schools, and later St. Cloud, Minnesota Business College. He was united in marriage to Aldora Hagen on May 30, 1937 at Milbank, South Dakota. They had 4 children. They lived in the West Central Minnesota area until 1953 when they moved to Iowa. After a few years at Armstrong and Cresco, Iowa, they moved to Elkader, Iowa in 1966. Ollie managed the meat department at Wilke's Grocery Store for a number of years. From 1972 until his retirement in 1982 he was the Clayton County Treasurer. Ollie was a member of the Bethany Lutheran Church, past member of the Elkader Rotary Club, Lions and Elkader Barbershop Chorus. He enjoyed reading and traveling.
After a brief time at the Memorial Hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin, he died there on Tuesday, January 7, 1992 at the age of 85. He was preceded in death by an infant son David Allen Hustad; a brother, Tegner Hustad; 3 sisters, Lillian, Alpha, and Helen; and his parents.
Ollie is survived by his wife, Aldora; a son John (Nan Knudsen) Hustad of St. Paul, Minnesota; 2 daughters, Karen (Bill) Bailey of Starbuck, Minnesota, and Kathy (John) Klinge of Farmersburg, Iowa; 5 grandchildren, Mindy, Sheila, Amy, Michael, and Karis; 3 great-grandchildren Darren, Stephanie, and Emily; and a brother, Dr. Edward Hustad of Edina, Minnesota.
