Funeral services for Alvin Bernhard/Bernard Neuhaus were held Monday, December 9, 1991 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. Celebrant was Father John Moran. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery in Monona, Iowa. Honorary pallbearers were Willis Meier, Milton Meier, Dayton Marfilius, Harvey Wirkler, Norbert Walz, Calvin Henkes, Larry Kurth, Russell Pate, Ed Smith, and Keith Kutzbach. Active pallbearers were Duane Berns, Donald Goedken, Steve Berns, Terry Mormann, Brian Berns, Mike Neuhaus, Kenneth Foxen, and Marty Krapfl. Military services was conducted by the Monona AmVets Post 27. Schultz Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of services.

Alvin Bernhard Neuhaus, Sr. was born September 20, 1923 in New Vienna, Iowa to Bernard and Theresa (Wiskus) Neuhaus. He was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. He received his education at St. Boniface Catholic School in New Vienna, Iowa. Alvin served in the U.S. Army with the 88th Infantry division in Italy during World War II. On June 7, 1949 Alvin was united in marriage to Clara Ann Berns at St. Joseph Catholic Church in Garnavillo, Iowa. To this union were born 10 children. The couple farmed near Farmersburg, Iowa until retiring in 1988 and moved to Monona in 1990.

Alvin Bernard died Friday, December 6, 1991 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa, following a long illness. He was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Knights of Columbus and Monona AmVets Post 27. Preceding him in death were his parents; daughter, Therese Marie and son-in-law, Larry Ihde.

Surviving are his wife, Clara; 5 daughters, Betty Gottschalk of Walker, Iowa, Jean Ihde of Elkader, Iowa, Ann Fields of Grafton, Wisconsin, Virginette Connor of LeClaire, Iowa and Mary Jaynes of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin; 4 sons, Tom Neuhaus of Monona, Iowa, Paul Neuhaus of Hyattsville, Maryland, Jerry Neuhaus of Monona, Iowa, and Al Neuhaus of Marion, Iowa; 18 grandchildren: Tara, Krista, and Sara Gottschalk, Erin, Chad, and Nicholas Ihde, Erika and Ian Fields, Jeremy and Rachel Neuhaus, Justin, Joshua, and Stacey Neuhaus, Tina, Troy, and Tyler Connor, and Jordan and Dustin Jaynes; 1 brother, Bernard Neuhaus of New Vienna, Iowa, and 2 sisters, Germaine Foxen of Luxemburg, Iowa and Vera Mormann of Petersburg, Iowa.

NOTE: Alvin's middle name was listed two ways in the obituary -- one as Bernhard and at a different time Bernard. Uncertain if was an error in the newspaper so I kept it both ways.
