Funeral services for Helen Melcher were held Friday, May 10, 1991 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Monona, Iowa. Father John Moran officiated. Burial was in the St. Patrick's Catholic Cemetery. Pallbearers were Keith Miller, Brian Miller, John Ryan, Bill Seglar, Leonard Seitz, and Tom Rose. Schultz Funeral Home in Monona, Iowa was in charge of services.

Helen Margaret was born May 5, 1911 in Allamakee County, Iowa to Edward and Anna (Licht) Schaefer. She was baptized and confirmed in the Catholic faith. She received her education in Irish Ridge Country School. On November 21, 1938 Helen was united in marriage to Earl Francis Melcher at St. Patrick's Catholic church in Monona, Iowa. To this union three children were born. The couple farmed east of Monona until 1971. They moved to Monona, Iowa in 1973.

Helen died Wednesday, May 8, 1991 at Northgate Manor in Waukon, Iowa where she had been a resident for 3 and a half years. She was a member of St. Patrick's Catholic Church and Rosary Society. Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Earl, who died June 30, 1988; a sister, Marie and a brother, Richard Schaefer.

Surviving are two sons, Robert (Joyce) Melcher of Monona, Iowa and Joseph (Jody) Melcher of Nevada, Iowa; 1 daughter, Mary Miller of Dubuque, Iowa; 10 grandchildren, Elizabeth Melcher, Michael Melcher, Kevin Melcher, Carla Melcher, Colleen Melcher, Lori Melcher, Jennifer Melcher, Keith Miller, Theresa Miller, and Brian Miller; and one niece Shirley Kann of McGregor, Iowa.
