Clara Elfrieda, daughter of Peter and Edna (Stafford) Hefner, was born August 12, 1902 on a farm at Volney. She spent her young life helping on the family farm, attending the rural country school, graduating from the Monona High School and furthering her education by attending college at Upper Iowa in Fayette, Iowa, obtaining a degree in Normal Teacher Training. She taught at a country school known as Suttle Creek. She also did substitute teaching. She left the teaching profession to become a wife. On November 18, 1925 she became the bride of Earl Allert of rural Monona, Iowa. They resided on the Allert farm north of Monona, Iowa. In 1977 they bought a home in Monona, Iowa and retired there. They were the parents of three children.

She was a member of the Volney Church, starting with her baptism there and continuing on in the church at Monona. She was a dedicated worker in the Church and her circle. She and her husband, Earl, enjoyed the Senior Citizens entertainment and Clara was an avid card player. Due to ill health, she and Earl entered the Independent Living Home in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin in the fall of 1990. She made friends easily and enjoyed playing cards and visiting with all the residents. It was there that they celebrated their sixty-fifth wedding anniversary.

Clara passed away on May 10, 1991 in the hospital in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. Her heart no longer was strong enough to continue its job function of maintaining her life. Preceding her in death were her parents; one daughter, Lee LaVonne King; 3 brothers, Merle Hefner, Elmer Hefner, and Leo Hefner; and 1 sister, Hazel Rush.

Clara is survived by her loving husband, Earl; 2 sons, Russell Allert of Des Moines, Iowa and Bobby Dean Allert of Monona, Iowa; 4 grandchildren and four great-grandchildren; and one sister, Helen Moore of Strawberry Point, Iowa.
