Funeral services were held for Walter Arnold Bugenhagen of Luana, Iowa at 11:00 a.m. Thursday, February 26 at St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa. The Rev. Christopher Staley officiated. Burial was in the church cemetery with Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa making arrangements. Casket bearers were Craig Bugenhagen, Kevin Bugenhagen, Kyle Bugenhagen, Dan Sass, David Fox, and Pat Walker.

Walter was the son of William and Wilhelmina (Meyer) Bugenhagen, Sr. was born August 3, 1903 near Luana, Iowa. On February 14, 1929 he married Florence Genz at the St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana, Iowa. They farmed in the Luana, Iowa and Postville, Iowa area. After retiring from farming, he worked at Hygrade in Postville, Iowa. They moved to Luana in 1966 and for 10 years he was the custodian of the Luana Church. He was a lifelong member of St. John's Lutheran Church in Luana.

Walter died Monday, February 23, 1998 at the Prairie Health Care Center in Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin. He was preceded in death by his wife who died May 15, 1988; 2 brothers, Edwin Bugenhagen, William Bugenhagen, Jr.; 2 sisters, Esther Blumhagen and Mabel Nielsen.

Walter is survived by his 2 sons, Robert Bugenhagen and Donald Bugenhagen; a daughter, Joan (Norman) Sedlmayr of Bagley, Wisconsin; 6 grandchildren and 5 great-grandchildren; and a sister, Irene Harnack of McGregor, Iowa.
