Gaylord Adolph Schlitter, son of Theodore and Nettie (Sutter) Schlitter, was born March 4, 1913 in Monona, Iowa. Gaylord received his education at the Monona Public School and graduated in 1931. On December 31, 1940 Gaylord was united in marriage to Viola Dill Debes at the Pilgrim Evangelical Church in Monona, Iowa. They were actively involved in farming for 53 years. He accepted Christ as his Savior in 1958. He loved the out-of-doors, working with his animals, and especially working in the timber. His daughters appreciate all the many wooden treasures he has made from his own timber wood.

Gaylord entered heaven August 8, 1996 at the age of 83. He was preceded in death by his parents; two sisters who died at birth, and one brother, Joseph Everett Schlitter who died January 11, 1984.

Gaylord is survived by his wife, Viola; his five daughters, Judith Jane (Randy) Volkening of Vernon Hills, Illinois, Maxine Mary (Richard) Tonn of Princeton, Minnesota, Cheryl Cindy (Gann) of Powder Springs, Georgia, Sandra Sara (Arnold) Doi of Arcadia, California, and Laneva Linda (Robert) Wynveen of Grayson, Georgia; 8 grandchildren: Derek Tonn, Anjanette (Tonn) Palmer, Nancy Gann, David Gann, Chad Doi, Shari Doi, Jesse Wynveen, and Faith Wynveen; 2 great-granddaughters, Alisha Palmer and Abigael Palmer; 1 brother, Eldred Schlitter of Monona, Iowa; 1 sister, Ivanell Larson of Postville, Iowa; 2 sisters-in-law, Lillian Schlitter of Waukon, Iowa and Leila Ann (Paul) Kilcher of Monona, Iowa.

NOTE OF THE TRANSCRIBER: The obituary does not list the place of burial. It also did not mention where or when the funeral service was held.
