Funeral services for Arno John Henning were held Saturday, January 23 at 11 a.m. at St. John's Lutheran Church in Farmersburg. Pastor Albert Hock officiated. Burial was in the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery.
Arno was born August 20, 1906, to parents Henry and Sophia Backhaus Henning, in Farmersburg, Iowa. He was baptized August 21, 1906 and confirmed at St. Peter's Lutheran Church, Garnavillo. He received his education in rural Hawkeye school. He died January 21, 1988 at Prairie du Chien Memorial Hospital following an extended illness.
On May 20, 1931, he married Erma Radloff at the home of her parents. The couple had 5 children. They farmed in Farmersburg Township until retiring in 1974 and then moved to Farmersburg. He was an active member of St. John's Lutheran Church and served on the Farmersburg-Wagner Cemetery Board.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 2 brothers, Harvey and Marvin; 2 sisters, Alvina Henning and Nelda Muller and an infant grandson.
Survivors include his wife, Erma; 2 sons, Vernon and Dennis of Farmersburg; 3 daughters, Evelyn Wacker, Prairie du Chien, WI; Phyllis Toberman, Janesville, WI and Arleta Henkes, Monona; 15 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren and twin sister, Selma Zurcher of Farmersburg.
Pallbearers were grandsons -- Roger Wacker; Mark, Kurt and Kent Toberman; Daryl, Dwain and Dustin Henkes; and Brian, Harold and Steven Henning.
