Fritz Pulfer, oldest son of Rudolph and Anna Elizabeth Pulfer was born at Canton Bern, Switzerland, November 19, 1887, and died at the family home near Elgin, Iowa, at 11 a.m. Saturday, August 14, 1926, at the age of forty-eight years, eight months and twenty-five days.
At the age of nine years, Fritz came to America with his parents, two brothers and three sisters and the family settled in Clayton county southeast of Elgin where they have since resided. It was here that he grew to manhood, and made many firm and lasting friends who grieve his early passing. He was always good natured, a good neighbor who was ever ready to help others, honest, industrious and a friend of everybody. More could not be said of any man.
He always enjoyed good health until 1925 when he submitted to a hernia operation, but since that time he has been an invalid and was forced to use a wheel chair. His family did everything possible to relieve his suffering and make his last days as pleasant as possible. Hospital treatment did not seem to help and he was brought home again and tenderly cared for by the family. Through all this time he was cheerful and bore his troubles bravely until the end.
He leaves to mourn his passing his aged parents, six brothers, Charles, Gottlieb, John, Ernest, Edward and George, four sisters, Eliza, Mary, Mrs. John Schmid and Lena, all of whom reside in this locality.
Mr. Pulfer never married but lived at home the most of his life. In 1916 he was converted and joined the Apostolic church of which he was a faithful member until his death.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at the Apostolic church. Rev. Imhof speaking in the German language and Rev. Gehring spoke in English. Burial was made in the Apostolic cemetery.
