Jacob Reinhart was born in Bern, Switzerland, January 8, 1846, and came to America in the year 1853, settling in Johnson county with his parents. Later he went to Ft. Scott, Kansas, where he made his home for a time. In 1867 he was married and in 1876 the family came to Clayton county, where they made their home. Three boys were born to this union, William dying in infancy, Ernest, in 1916 and Walter is now a resident of Chicago.

After the death of his first wife he was married to Mrs. Emma Meyer in 1889, and to them, four daughters were born, Mrs. Robinson and Mrs. Burzell, of Postville; Mrs. Walter Dennler of Elgin and Mary at home.

For a number of years Mr. Reinhart had been a sufferer, and although his death was anticipated it came suddenly at his home east of town on April 5. The funeral services were held from the Apostolic church east of town Sunday. Jacob Gehring conductiong a service in German and Edward Grimm speaking in the English language.

He was a kind father and good neighbor and will be missed not only by his family, but by a large number of relatives and friends.

Interment was made in Apostolic cemetery.

--------

Note: His first wife was Sarah Hubbard, who he married while in Kansas. She died between 1875 & 1880 and is buried in the Patterson cemetery. Jacob is enumerated on the 1880 census w/marital status 'widowed'. Their 2 young sons Emmet & Walter are not living with him - possibly were with other relatives. Emmet died in 1914 and is buried next to his mother in Patterson cemetery.
