Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Glen Kurth were held Saturday, December 14 at 11:00 a.m. at the Norway Lutheran Church, rural St. Olaf, Iowa. Rev. William Palmquist officiated. Burial was in the Norway Lutheran Church cemetery. Casket bearers were Randy Kurth, Brad Lenth, Loren Lenth, Gene Kurth, William Herreid, Jr., Bruce Lenth, and Thomas Herreid.
Glen Gerald Kurth was born March 20, 1921 in Wagner Township, Clayton County, Iowa to Elmer Louis and Hulda (Kliefoth) Kurth. He was raised and educated in the area attending the Center School. Glen was baptized on May 8, 1921 at St. John's Lutheran Church and confirmed there by Pastor Adix in July of 1936. He entered the United States Army on August 28, 1942 serving during World War II and was honorably discharged on January 26, 1946.
He was united in marriage to Anna M. Gunderson on September 25, 1946 at the West Clermont Lutheran Church, Clermont, Iowa. Three children were born to this union. Glen farmed his entire life in Wagner Township. Glen was a member of the Norway Lutheran Church where he served on the council for many years. He was also a member of the St. Olaf American Legion Post #388. He enjoyed fishing and hunting, especially with his grandsons.
Glen died suddenly at his home, Thursday morning, December 12, 1991 at the age of 70 years old. He was preceded in death by his parents.
Glen is survived by his wife, Anna; 2 sons, Gary (Anne) Kurth of Luana, Iowa and Kurtis (Mary) Kurth of St. Olaf, Iowa, and a daughter, Ramona (Mark) Benson of Elgin, Iowa; 8 grandchildren, David Kurth of Luana, Iowa, Alisha, Kari, Michelle, and Brittney Kurth, all of St. Olaf, Iowa, and Corey, Angela, and Nick Benson of Elgin, Iowa; his brother Calvin (Leola) Kurth of Monona, Iowa and 2 sisters, Inez (Wilber) Lenth of Monona, Iowa, and Norma (Bill) Herreid of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin.
