Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Frances Engelhardt were held Thursday, November 13, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church in Monona, Iowa. Dr. Elwin Farwell officiated. Burial was in the St. John's Lutheran Cemetery in Luana, Iowa. Casket bearers were her grandsons. Schultz Funeral home of Monona, Iowa was in charge of services.
Frances Marie was born September 3, 1910 to Clarence and Jessie Belle (Stafford) Henderson in Allamakee County, Iowa, north of Monona, Iowa. She was baptized in Volney in 1911 and confirmed on May 2, 1930 at St. John's Lutheran Church at Luana, Iowa. On August 26, 1927 Frances was united in marriage to Maury John Engelhardt. Frances lived in Monona most of her life. She was a homemaker and did wonderful hand-stitching and needlework. She was a member of St. Paul's Lutheran Church and WELCA in addition to being an avid Chicago Cubs baseball fan.
Frances died Monday, November 10, 1997 at Central Community Hospital in Elkader, Iowa. Preceding her in death were her parents, her husband, Maury who died August 21, 1977, a daughter, Shirley; a grandson Christopher Lukavsky; 3 brothers, Harold Henderson, Leon Henderson, and Lester "Scotty" Henderson, and a sister Thelma Bentien.
Surviving are 2 sons Daryl (Rita) Engelhardt of Rochester, Minnesota and David Engelhardt of Farmersburg, Iowa; 3 daughters, Marilyn (Dr, Martin) Meadows of Potomac, Maryland, Norma (LaVerne) Landt of Monona, Iowa, and Mary (Gary) Chappell of McGregor, Iowa; 18 grandchildren: Pam (Rob) Rudy of Mound, Minnesota, Jeff (Susan) Engelhardt of Hailey, Idaho, Sally (John) Grate of Los Altos, California, Becky (Jeff) Patch of Barboursville, Virginia, Alan Landt of Luana, Iowa, LeAndra (Tom) Hartmann of Lanark, Illinois, Neil (Cindy) Landt of Luana, Iowa, LaRee Landt of Marion, Iowa, Valorie Lukavsky of Lansing, Michigan, Brenda (Kevin) Franck of Atkins, Iowa, Chris (Shari) Engel of Homestead, Iowa, Julie Senol of Littleton, Colorado, Jonathan Engelhardt of Madison, Wisconsin, Rita (Greg) Rickels of Giard, Iowa, Robert Engelhardt of North Freedom, Wisconsin, Joshua Chappell, Laura Chappel, and Christopher Chappell all of McGregor, Iowa; 26 great-grandchildren: Lauren Rudy, Emilie and Gus Engelhardt, Jacob and Rachel Grate, Kara, Demi, and Paul Martin Patch, Jessica, Jill, and Sarah Landt, Lauren and Liberty Hartmann, Cyrus and Maury Landt, Tim, Robert, and John Paul Lukavsky, Gary Lee and Tracey Franck, Adam and Aric Engel, Derya Senol, Devon Engelhardt, Jenny and Kris Rickels; 7 step-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Mayme Landt of Luana, Iowa, and Gretchen Wiethorn of Monona, Iowa and 1 brother, Marlyn "Doc" Henderson of Monona, Iowa.
