Funeral Services For Harry Helgerson
Funeral services for Harry Helgerson were held Friday, May 7, at 1:30 p.m. at the East Clermont Lutheran Church. The Rev. Roger W. Peterson from Luther College, Decorah, officiated. The Schutte Funeral Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements.
Harry Alfred Helgerson, son of Nels T. and Julia (Gilbertson) Helgerson, was born on the family farm in Grand Meadow Township, Clayton County, December 1, 1903. He died May 4, 1982 at Community Memorial Hospital, Postville.
He was baptized and confirmed in the East Clermont Lutheran Church and graduated from the Clermont High School in 1921. On August 9, 1934 he was united in marriage with Esther Valdine (Broby) Olson. They farmed on the family farm where Roger Amundson now lives until they retired in 1955. They moved to Postville where he served as a Director for the Citizens State Bank. In 1961 they built a new house in Clermont where he lived until his death.
For many years he was assessor for Grand Meadow Township and served on the Clayton County Board of Tax Review. For 22 years he was Treasurer of the East Clermont Lutheran Church and a trustee of the Church Cemetery Fund.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Esther, and six half-brothers, Tollef, Ole, Ansten, Melvin, Louie and Ingvale Helgerson.
Surviving are two sisters, Mrs. Martin (Mabel) Amundson and Mrs. Reginald (Palma) Walls, two sisters-in-law, Mrs. Ansten Helgerson (Clara Kittleson) and Mrs. E. K. Mork (Alma Broby Olson), all of Clermont, and many nephews and nieces.
