Contributor: Connie Ellis (Schlitter Family Researcher)Selda Topel, age 88, of Waukon, Iowa died Tuesday, December 24, 1996 at the Waukon Veterans Memorial Hospital. Funeral services were held Saturday, December 28, 1996 at 11:00 a.m. at the Garden City United Methodist church in Monona, Iowa. Dr. Gary Dobbins officiated. Pallbearers were her grandsons. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz Funeral Home was in charge of services.
Selda Minnie was the daughter of William and Hermina "Minnie" (Witt) Timmerman and was born April 19, 1908 at Monona, Iowa. She received her education at the Figgie rural school. Selda was united in marriage to Herman Topel on September 30, 1925 at the home of his parents. The couple was engaged in farming on the Rominger farm in Linton Township at the time of Herman's death. Selda worked at Ernie's Store and Northern Engraving. Her greatest joy was spending time with her family.
She was preceded in death by her parents,her husband Herman Topel, a daughter, Darlene Keehn, a sister Anne Ferguson, and nine brothers: John Timmerman, Theodore Timmerman, Frank Timmerman, Herman Timmerman, Fred Timmerman, Harry Timmerman, Grover Timmerman, Henry Timmerman, and Willis Timmerman.
She is survived by her six sons; Alfred Topel of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, Wilburt (Lucille) Topel of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, Gary Topel of LaCrosse, Wisconsin, Robert Topel, Don (Delores) Topel, and Wayne (Sharon) Topel, all of Waukon, Iowa; and 1 daughter, Eileen (Reuben) Shindoll, also of Waukon, Iowa; 17 grandchildren and 10 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Emma Snitker of Postville, Iowa and Mabel (Vernie) Kruse of Monona, Iowa in additional to many other relatives and friends.
