Melbert Hofer
Funeral services for Melbert E. Hofer, Low Moor, were held at 2 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 21, at the Norway Lutheran Church in St. Olaf. The Rev. Keith Klemm officiated.
Melbert Hofer was born October 10, 1910 in Sioux County, the son of Samuel and Louisa (Pharrer) Hofer and died February 17, 1979 at Jane Lamb Memorial Hospital, Clinton. He was baptized and confirmed in Immanuel Lutheran Church, Charlotte, and attended school in Clayton County.
In 1934 he married Marjorie Walter and they lived in St. Olaf until 1965 when they moved to Clinton. He had been a carpenter prior to his retirement and was a member of Carpenters Local 772.
He was preceded in death by his father, four brothers and a sister.
Surviving are his wife Margie; three daughters, Mrs. Henry (Gloria) Lamphere, Epworth; Mrs. William (Susan) Torkelson, Clermont; and Mrs. Charles (Bonita) Lokenvitz, Excelsion, Minn.; five sons, Ronald, Luana; Philip, Postville; Richard, Springfield, Ore.; James, Fort Worth, Tex.; and Delbert, Omaha, Neb.; 19 grandchildren; his mother, Mrs. Louisa Hofer, Libertyville, Ill.; two brothers, Laurence, Postville; and Arthur, Chicago, Ill.; two sisters, Mrs. Stan (Dorothy) Lisowsky, Chicago, Ill.; and Mrs. Richard (Eileen) DuPont, Mundelein, Ill.
Burial was in the United Brethren Cemetery, rural St. Olaf. Arrangements were made by Shadduck-Cannon Funeral Home, Clinton and Witt Funeral Home, Elkader.
