Frederick W. Aulwes passed away at the home of his daughter, Mrs. henry Dittmer, at 8 o'clock Monday evening, following a lingering illness. The deceased had been failing in health for more than a year and had been bedfast for the past six months. Funeral services were held at the home of Mrs. Dittmer at 2:30 this afternoon with Rev. Wm. P. Webb, pastor of the Methodist church in charge. Interment was made in the Ireton cemetery.

Frederick W. Aulwes, who was a son of Frederick and Charlotta Aulwes, was born at Cincinnati, Ohio, May 13, 1840, and so had reached the advanced age of 86 years, 2 months and 6 days. He lived at Cincinnati until 1845 when he came west with his parents and located at Guttenburg, Iowa. In 1865 he was united in marriage with Helena Meyers at Guttenburg and this union was blessed with eight children. In 1920 Mr. and Mrs. Aulwes came to Ireton and he has resided in this community ever since. His wife preceded him in death 1 year and 3 months [ago]. Mr. Aulwes was in poor health before his wife's death and failed continually until the end came Monday evening. He was one of the oldest members of the Odd Fellows lodge in Iowa.

He is survived by eight children, Gust F. of Lennox, S.D.; Mrs. Henry Ditmer of Ireton; Mrs. Herman Petermann of Suisun City, Calif.; Mrs. A.W. Greenwaldt of Neptune, Iowa; Arthur of Detroit, Mich.; Mrs. Adran Carnes of Beresford, S.D.; Emil J. of Gary, S.D.; and Fred H. of Minneapolis. He is also survived by 27 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren.
