Funeral services for Charlotte "Lucky" Melcher were held Monday, May 8, 2000 at 2:00 p.m. at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Monona, Iowa. Rev. Glenn Leaf officiated. Organist was Mrs. Connie Halvorson and soloist was Rev. Lynn Groe. Pallbearers were Travis Buerger, LeAllan Buerger, Kerry Melcher I, Kerry Melcher II, Victor Schneider, Paul Schneider, Ivan Melcher, Vernon Melcher, and Arden Melcher. Honorary pallbearers were Effie Piper, LeAllan Buerger, Jr., Sherri Buerger, Robert Moses, Allen Krueger, and Tracy Buerger. Burial was in the St. Paul's Lutheran Church Cemetery, Monona, Iowa. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona was in charge of the arrangements.

Charlotte Esther was the daughter of Rev. Albert and Helena (Schumacher) Daugs, born December 22, 1914 at Big Springs, Minnesota. She was baptized January 1, 1915 at Big Springs, Minnesota and confirmed August 25, 1929 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by her father. She graduated from Monona High School in 1932 and attended 2 years of County Aid School at Calmar, Iowa.

Lucky was united in marriage to Carl Leas Melcher on December 20, 1937 at St. Paul Lutheran Church by the late Rev. Albert Daugs. They farmed north of Monona for over 40 years. Lucky was a homemaker and worked as a Clayton County Aid. Her hobbies included knitting, making quilt blocks, gardening, flowers, and farm activities. She was a member of Heritage Club and the Hope-Peace Circle at St. Paul's. She died Thursday, May 4, 2000 at Veteran's Memorial Hospital, in Waukon, Iowa.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Carl, who died March 30, 1998; one son James Carl Melcher who was killed in a car accident; 3 sisters, Gertrude Hass, Paula Schneider, and Theodora Montgomery; and 5 brothers, Harold Daugs, Palmer Daugs, Frederick Daugs, Gottfied Daugs, and Alfred Daugs.

Survivors include one daughter, Shirley Ann Krueger of Waterloo, Iowa; 3 grandchildren; 2 sisters, Helena Melcher of Monona, Iowa, and Ruth Anderson of Dubuque, Iowa.
