Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Robert W. Benzing, age 80, of rural Gays Mills, Wisconsin, died Sunday, April 30, 2000 at his home following a short illness. Funeral services were held Wednesday, May 3, 2000 at 10:00 a.m. at the United Methodist Church in Seneca, Wisconsin with burial in Giard Cemetery, Giard Township, Clayton County, Giard, Iowa. Thornburg-Hanson Funeral Home of Prairie du Chien, Wisconsin was in charge of services.
Robert was born August 17, 1919 at Giard, Iowa to Arthur and Alberta (Nichols) Benzing. They moved to Centuria, Wisconsin and lived there until he was 14 years old when they moved to a farm near Giard. He married Irene Jones on November 23, 1939 at the United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa. They farmed in the Giard area until moving to a farm in Seneca Township, Wisconsin in 1968. He sold silos for the Westman Silo and the New Hampton Silo companies. He also sold for the Albert Lee Tool Company from the late 50's to the mid 60's. He was a member of the NFO in Wisconsin for many years.
He is survived by his wife, Irene; 5 sons, Roger (Diann) Benzing of Luana, Iowa, Ronald (Judy) Benzing of Waterloo, Iowa, Paul (Margaret) Benzing, and David (Sharon) Benzing, both of Seneca, Wisconsin, Kevin (Karen) Benzing of Marshalltown, Iowa; 20 grandchildren, 19 great-grandchildren; 1 brother Keith (Janette) Benzing of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and 1 sister, Betty (Don) Mackie of Warren, New Jersey.
