Glawe, William C.T., SR 1878-1963

GLAWE, MUELLER, IHLENFELDT, NEWBERN

Funeral services were held Wednesday, June 26, 1963, for William Glawe Sr. at the Peace United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Alvin J. Volle officiating. Burial was at the Clayton Center cemetery.

Pallbearers were his grandsons, Roger Glawe, Norbert Glawe, Lyle Glawe, Loren Glawe, Dean Newbern, Donald Newbern and Richard Newbern.

William Charles Theodore Glawe Sr., son of John and Fredrieka Mueller Glawe, was born Nov. 2, 1879, in Read Township, Clayton County, Iowa, and died at the Central Community Hospital, Elkader, June 23, 1963, from old age and complications. He had been in failing health the past year.

He was baptized and confirmed at the Zion Lutheran Church at Clayton Center and was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ, Elkader.

Mr. Glawe was married to Lena Caroline Ihlenfeldt, Dec. 1, 1904 at Clayton Center. They celebrated their golden anniversary in 1954.

He lived his entire life in Clayton County in Read and Boardman Townships and moved to Elkader 38 years ago. After retiring from farming, he was sexton of the cemetery and janitor of the Peace United Church of Christ for a number of years. He had made his home the past three years with his son-in-law and daughter, Mr. and Mrs. Kenneth Newbern.

Mr. Glawe was preceded in death by his parents, his wife and a son Eldo, who both died in 1960; a grandchild, two sisters and eight brothers.

He is survived by three children, William Glawe Jr., Garnavillo; Mrs. Kenneth (Edna) Newbern, Elkader, and Irwin G. Glawe, Waterloo; a brother, Louis Glawe, Elkader, and 14 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren.
