Funeral services were held Saturday, April 2, 1960, for Mrs. William (Caroline) Glawe Sr. at the Peace United Church of Christ at 2 p.m. with the Rev. Robert Jacobs officiating. Burial was at the Clayton Center cemetery.
Pallbearers were Roger Glawe, Robert Glawe, Gene Glawe, Loren Glawe, Lyle Glawe, Norbert Glawe, and Loren Glawe, Dean Newbern, Donald Newbern and Richard Newbern.
Caroline Glawe was born Feb. 5, 1880, to Christian and Friedericka Ihlenfeldt in Kleingastrow, Germany, and died at her home in Elkader, Iowa, March 30, 1960, having been in ill health for a number of years.
She received her early education in the schools in Germany. In 1894 she came to America and settled in central Clayton County, Iowa, where she spent her remaining life
On Dec. 1, 1904 she was united in marriage to Wm. Glawe Sr. at Clayton Center. The couple moved to their present home in 1919. It was their privilege to celebrate their golden anniversary in 1954.
She was a member of the Peace United Church of Christ and its Women’s Guild, having been an active and willing worker in each for many years. For several years she ran a hospital in Elkader and did practical nursing until her health failed.
She was preceded in death by her mother in 1894 and her father in 1905 and one son Eldo, March 20, 1960.
She is survived by her husband, two sons, William Glawe Jr., Garnavillo; Elkader, and Irwin G. Glawe, Lime Springs; and one daughter Mrs. Kenneth (Edna) Newbern, one brother, Ernest Ihlenfeldt, Elkader, and 13 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.
