Funeral services for Everett Edward Henkes were held Thursday, January 11, 2 p.m. at Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona. Rev. Gary Grindeland officiated. Burial was in Monona City Cemetery.
He was born July 22, 1909, near Farmersburg in Clayton County, Iowa, to parents Louis and Ida Roth Henkes.
On December 8, 1939 he married Esther Geneva Halverson at the Lutheran parsonage in St. Olaf. The couple lived in Giard, Froelich, Monona, McGregor and Marquette. He was employed in numerous occupations in the area. The couple retired in Prairie du Chien, WI nine years ago.
Everett died Monday, January 8, 1990 at the Prairie Health Care Center, where he had been a resident for 3 years.
Preceding him in death were his parents; 4 brothers, Oscar, Albert, Clarence and Lester and 2 sisters, Mabel Schlitter and Edna Miller.
Surviving is his wife Esther; step-daughter, Gerri (Mrs. Henry Nelsen), Prairie du Chien; 6 step-grandsons: 2 step-granddaughters; and a sister, Irene Kuthe, Monona.
Pallbearers: Kenneth Henkes, Donald Henkes, Donald Schlitter, Keith Kishman, Elmer Schlitter and John Potratz.
