Bergritte Jacobson (Knudtson) was born December 5, 1839, in Hallingdahl, Norway.
She was given in marriage to Jacob Knudtson while yet in Norway where all but the youngest of the children were born. The husband left for America in the spring of 1881 and the family followed in the fall of the same year. They settled in the Township of Highland, but later moved to Marion where they settled permanently. They lived on the farm where Jno. Halem now lives, until the husband and father died. After Mr. Knudtson’s death the family moved to the Lars Jensen farm and from there to the place on the Elgin and Gunder road where Mrs. Jacobson was taken to her resting place.
She died on the 23rd day of March, from pneumonia, at the age of 88 years, 3 months and 18 days, and leaves to mourn her passing 6 children, 20 grandchildren, and 18 great-grandchildren. The children are Knudt Jacobson of Maxbess, North Dakota, Mrs. Andrew Nyberg, of Marion Township, Mrs. B. Craft, Minnesota, Mrs. John Weberg and Mrs. Joseph Weberg of Inwood, Iowa, and Olaves Jacobson of Marion Township.
Mrs. Jacobson was of the pioneer spirited people who were willing to sacrifice and labor to inherit the better land. In all their struggles she was blessed with very good health, which made the burden much lighter than otherwise and her burdens were borne cheerfully. Three years before her death she suffered an attack of pneumonia which threatened, but did not prove to be fatal. However since that time her health has been quite good.
She put her trust in the acceptance of the grace of Christ Jesus and looked forward to an eternal blessedness with the God of love.
Interment was made in the Marion cemetery from the Marion church, Rev. T. W. Tysdal, pastor, officiating.
