Staub, Louis 1859-1928

Louis Staub, son of Mr. and Mrs. Peter Staub, was born in Elwood, Kansas,
December 25, 1859, and died at his home east of Elkader, January 14, 1928,
being at the time of his death 68 years and 21 days of age.

In 1883 he removed from Kansas to Clayton County, Iowa. Previously, on
January 12, 1881, he had married Miss Sarah Elizabeth Damon in Kansas.

In 1897 he moved to what was to be the home place to the time of his death.
Here his wife passed away, October 31, 1887. The baby boy, Alphonzo Louis,
followed his mother in death a few weeks later. A daughter, Dolly Josephine,
passed away in 1889. The surviving daughters by this marriage are Misses
Lula and Bertha of Elkader.

On December 25, 1888, Mr. Staub was united in marriage to Miss Alice Shaw,
of Elkader. The children resulting from this marriage are James at the home
place, Edward of Dayton, Ohio, Mrs Emma Bearhorn (Barghahn) of Madison,
Wisconsin, Louis of Dubuque and Mrs. Pauline Doeppke of Clayton Center.
There also survive nine grandchildren besides a sister and half-sister in
Kansas.

Since the spring of 1926, Mr. Staub had been confined to his home and for a
year had been bedridden.

Prayers were offered at the late home Wednesday afternoon, January 18, and
the funeral followed at the Congregational church, Rev. Albert S. Kilbourn
officiating. Interment was in the East Side cemetery.
