Sumner Miller Died Sunday in Wyoming

According to word received here, Sumner Miller, a former resident of Clayton
county, died suddenly at his home in Pine Bluffs, Wyoming, Sunday. The
funeral was held Wednesday. Obituary next week.

Mr. Miller founded the Guttenberg Press thirty-two years ago. He moved away
from here about twenty years ago. His brother G. C. Miller of Guttenberg,
left Monday for Pine Bluff.

The death of Sumner Miller, 66, a former resident of Guttenberg, occurred at
his home at Pine Bluffs, Wyo., on Sunday morning according to a message
received here by relatives. Mr. Miller was prominent in politics and
business circles when a resident of Clayton County and Guttenberg.

Deceased was born May 18, 1861, a son of Mr. and Mrs. Cyrus D. Miller,
deceased. He was married to Ida White of Volga City. For a number of years
Mr. Miller was engaged as a school teacher in Guttenberg public schools and
other schools in Clayton County. He was one time principal of the public
schools here and held town offices in Guttenberg at various times. For
several years he served as county superintendent of schools. Thirty-two
years ago he founded the Guttenberg Press, present weekly newspaper here,
being engaged in the newspaper business in Guttenberg until 20 years ago,
when he went to Pine Bluffs, Wyo., where he engaged in the banking and real
estate business and where he spent the remainder of his life.

Mr. Miller was a Mason and at the time of his death was a member of the
following branches of Masonry in Wyoming: Kosien Temple, A. A. N. M. S.,
Wyoming Consistory, I. S. P. R. S., Wyoming Commandery, 1, K. T.; Wyoming
chapter, R. A. M.; Gate City Lodge No. 32, A. F. and A. M., and Pine Bluffs
Chapter No. 2, O. E. S.

. . . He is survived by his widow, two brothers Dr. G. C. Miller of
Guttenberg, Frank Miller of Dubuqueee; two sisters, Mrs. Clyde Tidball of
Brookings, S. D., and Miss Priscilla Miller, of Manchester.—Telegraph Herald
