Luana Man Dies Following Mishap

Harlen Heins, 39, Luana, was killed Saturday night when a vehicle crashed into the rear of a flatbed trailer, pinning him between the trailer and his pick-up truck in Linn County.

A Linn County Sheriff's report says that Heins was fixing a flat tire on his pickup in the northbound lane because a snow drift prevented him from pulling onto the shoulder of the road.

Michael T. Kelly, 25, Decorah was traveling north and failed to stop before slamming into the rear of Heins' flatbed trailer. Kelly was charged with drunk driving after being treated at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.

Services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 (today) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. A complete obituary for Harlen Heins will appear in next week's Herald.
