Funeral services for Harlen Heins, 39, Luana, were held Wednesday, Feb. 8 at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. The Rev. Julius L. Peterson officiated. Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in Eno Cemetery, rural Luana.
Harlan William Heins, the son of Florence Emma Mueller and the adopted son of William Herman Heins, was born May 16, 1944 in Postville. He died Feb. 4, 1984 after a traffic accident near Center Point.
He was baptized at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville, and was educated in the country school near Luana. He married Shirley Schultz June 12, 1966 at the Little Brown Church in Nashua. They were the parents of four children.
During his life, he farmed, and was a junk dealer and stock car racer.
Preceding him in death were two infant sons, John Allen, who died in 1966, and Richard William, who died in 1969; his adoptive father, William; and his grandmother, Ida Landt Heins.
Surviving are his wife, Shirley, a son, Timmy Lee, and a daughter, Daisy, all of Luana; his mother, Florence Mueller; four sisters, Rosemarie Heins, Ida Heins and Helen Nuehring, all of Luana and Joyce Green of Elgin.

Harlen Heins, 39, Luana, was killed Saturday night when a vehicle crashed into the rear of a flatbed trailer, pinning him between the trailer and his pick-up truck in Linn County.
A Linn County Sheriff's report says that Heins was fixing a flat tire on his pickup in the northbound lane because a snow drift prevented him from pulling onto the shoulder of the road.
Michael T. Kelly, 25, Decorah was traveling north and failed to stop before slamming into the rear of Heins' flatbed trailer. Kelly was charged with drunk driving after being treated at St. Luke's Hospital, Cedar Rapids.
Services were scheduled for 1:30 p.m. Wednesday, Feb. 8 (today) at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Postville. A complete obituary for Harlen Heins will appear in next week's Herald.
