Funeral services for Estella Katherine Ryan, age 77, who died Wednesday, September 4, 1985 at Veterans Memorial Hospital in Waukon, Iowa were held at 1 p.m. Friday, September 6 from St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Monona, Iowa. The Revs. John Moran, Larry Duenas, and Paul Peters officiated at the services with burial in the church cemetery. Casket bearers were Mike Bartels, Danny Bartels, Roger O'Hara, Randy Halweg, John Sparrgrove, and Henry Hemesath. Schultz Funeral Home of Monona, Iowa was in charge of arrangements.

Estella was born February 11, 1908 in Waukon, Iowa, the daughter of Charles and Catherine (Ryan) Keenan. She was baptized and confirmed at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Waukon, Iowa. She was educated in the Waukon Schools and Waukon Junior College. She taught school for a time in the Waukon and Monona areas. She was also employed for a time at a nursing home in Decorah, Iowa. For the past four years she had been a resident of Northgate Manor in Waukon, Iowa. She was a member of St. Patrick's Church in Monona, the Monona rosary society, and senior citizens organizations.

On February 11, 1933 she and Emmett W. Ryan were married in Waukon, Iowa. They were the parents of 5 children. Emmett died October 12, 1972. In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son Alan, who died May 2, 1962, brothers Cyril Keenan and Clem Keenan, and a sister Cile *sp?* Keenan.

Surviving are 4 children: Kathleen O'Hara of Decorah, Iowa, Mrs. Conrad (Ethna) Bartels of Mt. Prospect, Illinois; Larry Ryan of Glendora, California, and John Ryan of Monona, Iowa; 15 grandchildren and 3 great-grandchildren; 2 sisters, Lorene Keenan of Milwaukee, Wisconsin, and Anne Ryan of Missoula, Montana, and a brother, Eddie Keenan of Hales Corners, Wisconsin.
