Alice Berdeva Owen Holly was born June 4, 1905, in Frankville, Iowa, to parents Eugene and Melissa Webb Owen. She was baptized in the Presbyterian Church in Frankville. Alice graduated from Postville High School and obtained her teaching degree at Iowa State Teachers College in Cedar Falls, Iowa.
On September 1, 1925 Alice was united in marriage to Elmer Franck at the Little Brown Church, Nashua, Iowa. Elmer died November 2, 1928. On August 24, 1946 Alice was united in marriage to Vencilof Holly. Alice lived in Monona for many years and taught in rural schools in Clayton and Allamakee county for over 35 years. She also taught at the parochial school in Festina, Iowa until retiring in 1970. She spent some of her years working as a practical nurse.
Alice died Monday, February 16, 1987 at Postville Community Hospital following a long illness. She was a loving and caring person and a dedicated teacher.
Preceding her in death were her parents, husbands: Elmer Franck, who died November 2, 1928 and Vencilof Holly, who died February 17, 1974; one son, Eugene, who died June 23, 1971; and one sister, Mildred L. Owen.
Surviving is one daughter, Evelyn and husband Forest "Toey" Kelly of Postville, Iowa; one son, Milton E. Franck and wife Wilma of Hazlet, New Jersey; 9 grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; and one brother Harley Owen of Eureka, Illinois.
Funeral services were held at 11 a.m. Thursday, February 19, 1987 at the Garden City United Methodist Church, Monona, Iowa. Rev. Terrance Hennesy officiating. Burial in Monona City Cemetery. Pallbearers were Dale Ellis, Michael Ellis, Randy Franck, Harry Wilson, Veryl Kelley, Donald Franck.
Schultz's Funeral Home, Monona, Iowa, was in charge of arrangements.
