GEO. BENSON LAID TO REST IN COUNTY CORNERS CEMETERY
George W. Benson, local resident for 36 years, passed away at his home early Saturday morning at the age of 88. He had been in declining health for several months.
Funeral services were held at the Gill Chapel Monday afternoon with the Rev. R. Park Anderson in charge. Pallbearers were George Barr, Charles Blanchard, Earl Knight, Charles Sauerbry, James Sauerbry and Phil Wood. Interment was in the County Corners cemetery. The Masonic service was conducted at the grave.
Mr. Benson was born Dec. 31, 1855 on a farm near Rochester, Minnesota. His parents were Walter F. Benson of Ohio and Cynthia Tubbs of New York State. He was married to Eva L. Waite at Waterloo on Jan. 29, 1885; Mr. Benson was a carpenter by trade and engaged in this work until he retired.
Surviving are his wife and one daughter, Mrs. Golda Dittmer of Oelwein; one sister, Miss Harriet Benson of Strawberry Point; six grandchildren and two great grandchildren. A daughter, Mrs. Regina Burgett, preceded him in death.
Mr. Benson was a member of the Methodist Church and was a Mason.
