Contributor: Connie Ellis (Not related)Funeral services for Johanna Juvik were held Saturday, September 13 at the Old East Paint Creek Church near Waterville, Iowa. *The place of burial is not listed in the obituary but it probably was in the Old East Paint Creek Church cemetery.* Pallbearers were Richard Juvik, Don Davis, Russell Davis, Paul Peterson, Orville Peterson, and Clarence Larson.
Johanna was born July 24, 1886 near St. Olaf, Iowa in Clayton County. She died September 10, 1980 in McGregor, Iowa at the Great River Care Center where she has been a resident for the last two years. She was the ninth of ten children born to Anton and Bertha Peterson. Brothers and sisters who preceded her in death were Peter, Martin, Caroline, Adolph, Albertina, Louina, Gust, Sophie, and Oliver Peterson.
After teaching elementary school for several years, Johanna was married to Bernt Juvik on July 22, 1911. Their three sons are Odin Juvik of Gig Harbor, Washington, Bertin Juvik of Waukon, Iowa, and Josef Juvik of Jacksonville, Florida. Their two daughters are Mrs. Glenn (Agnes) Feuerhelm of Denver, Colorado and Mrs. Ray (Sofie) Davis of Garnavillo, Iowa.
Bernt and Johanna farmed and raised their children in the St.Olaf, Iowa area. In 1944 they moved to rural Harpers Ferry, Iowa, where they farmed with their son, Bertin and his wife. After her husband's death in 1963, Johanna continued to live in her home on the farm for several years. After a stroke she moved to her daughter Agnes's home in Waukon, Iowa and later to her daughter Sofie's home near McGregor, Iowa before she went to the Great River Care Center.
Survivors include her five children, 17 grandchildren, 21 great-grandchildren, nieces and nephews.
