Thelma Clair Bentien, age 80, died Sunday December 13, 1987 at the Good Samaritan Center in Postville, Iowa where she had been a resident since 1981. Funeral services were held Tuesday, December 15 at 11 a.m. at Garden City United Methodist Church in Monona, Iowa. The Rev. Marion Bloodworth officiated. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery with Schultz Funeral Home in charge of arrangements. Casket bearers were grandsons Ted Funk, Michael and Kevin Bentien, William and Tim Christofferson, and Scott Benesh.

Thelma was born December 10, 1907 near Monona, Iowa to Clarence and Jessie (Stafford) Henderson. She was baptized at Volney Methodist Church and received her education in Volney school. On April 25, 1925 she married Linford J. Bentien at the Methodist parsonage in Monona, Iowa. They farmed southwest of Monona and moved to Monona in 1951. Linford died July 1, 1974. She was the janitor of the United Methodist Church in Monona for 16 years before retiring in 1979. She was a member of Garden City Methodist Church where she held many offices and serving as a Sunday School teacher for many years.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by two brothers, Harold and Leon Henderson.

Surviving are a son, Harlin Bentien of Monona, Iowa; 3 daughters, Betty Funk of Osage, Iowa, Ramona Christofferson of Harpers Ferry, Iowa, and JoAnn Benesh of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; 11 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren; 2 brothers, Lester and Marlyn Henderson, both of Monona, Iowa; and 3 sisters, Mayme Landt of Luana, Iowa, Frances Engelhardt, and Gretchen Weithorn, both of Monona, Iowa.
