BERT COLE LAID TO REST FRIDAY IN PT. CEMETERY
Funeral services for Bert R. Cole who died at his home October 2 following a few weeks’ illness, were held Friday afternoon at the Methodist church, Rev. R. Park Anderson officiating. Pallbearers were Carl Buls, H. J. Esch, Otto Feulner, C. C. Huntley, M.F. Harwood and J. J. Matthews. In charge of the flowers were Mrs. Buls, Mrs. R. V. Brandt and Mrs. Gorda Gill. Paul Lindemeyer sang “Jesus Lover of My Soul” and Mrs. Lloyd Kramer was pianist.
Mr. Cole was born July 1, 1878 at Strawberry Point, the son of Asa R. Cole and Nancy McNary. He attended the local schools and the Capital City Commercial College at Des Moines. He clerked in several local stores. On September 18, 1906 Mr. Cole was married to Ollie Cole. He was employed as cashier in the First National Bank here and during World War I he was in charge of the Littleport bank. He was secretary of the Strawberry Point Creamery 12 years; bookkeeper for M. J. Goodrich for nine years and for the past 15 years has been town clerk. For many years he had been secretary-treasurer of the Lions Club.
Surviving Mr. Cole are his wife, one sister, Mrs. Mertie Kaberle, two nephews, Bert and LeRoy Kaberle. Two half brothers preceded him in death. They were Harley and Will Cook.
