Laura Katherine Haag Services Held
Services were held Tuesday, January 15, 1980, at Garden City United Methodist "Brick" Church, Monona, for Laura Haag. Rev. Carroll Brown officiated. Organist was Mrs. Ivon Schultz, and soloist was Mrs. Tom James. Pallbearers were Telmer Olson, Tom Schofield, Norbert Fritz, Leo Bollman, Kendall Benzing, and Foster Koth. Burial was in the Monona City Cemetery. Schultz's Funeral Home in Monona was in charge of services.
Laura Katherine Haag, the daughter of Adam and Mina (Brownslow) Eibel, was born January 25, 1885, in Farmersburg Township, Clayton County, Iowa. She attended school in Monona and graduated from high school in 1902. On February 2, 1910, she was united in marriage to Edwin J. Haag at Monona. To this union four children were born: Gayle, Vivian, Donald and John. She was a loving wife and mother and cared about the welfare of her friends and neighbors. She was a faithful member of the Garden City United Methodist Church for eighty years, and for many years she was a loyal and faithful member of the American Legion Auxiliary and a Gold Star Mother.
She died January 11, 1980, at the Good Samaritan Center, Postville, having reached the age of 94 years, 11 months, 16 days.
Preceding her in death were her parents; her husband, Edwin, who died in 1969; her son, Donald, who died while serving with the U.S. Navy on the ship USS Jacob Jones in 1942; her son, John, who died in 1977; and her brothers, Albert, Charles, and John.
Surviving her are two daughters, Gayle Hutchison of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; and Mrs. Warren (Vivian) Newcomb of San Diego, California; her grandson, Joel Hutchison of Huntsville, Alabama; and two great-grandsons.
