Margaret Elizabeth Augusta (Krambeer) Hangartner

Funeral services for Margaret Hangartner were held Saturday, January 17, 2004, at 1:30 p.m. in St. John Lutheran Church at Luana, Iowa. The Reverend Christopher Staley officiated. Casket bearers were Dan Kneeskern, Jeffrey Wentz, Joel Wentz, Jerry Wentz, Heather Hangartner, Ray Hangartner. The Schutte Funeral and Cremation Service of Postville was in charge of arrangements. Burial was in the church cemetery.

Margaret Elizabeth Augusta (nee Krambeer) Hangartner, was born July 26, 1916, in Clayton County, near Luana, Iowa, to Ben and Rosena (Eggert) Krambeer. She passed away, Wednesday night, January 14, 2004, in Veterans Memorial Hospital at Waukon, Iowa. She had reached the age of 87 years, 5 months, and 18 days.

Margaret was baptized July 30, 1916 in St. John Lutheran Church at Luana by Pastor Westenberger, and confirmed there April 13, 1930, by the Reverend H. P. Kumpf. She received her education in the Luana Consolidated School, except for one year when she attended the North Grove School in Allamakee County.

Margaret was married to Lynn Michael Hangartner on June 30, 1937, in St. John Lutheran Church at Luana. To this union four children were born, Don, Ron, Norma, and Lorna. They farmed in the Luana and Monona areas and moved to Luana in 1960. There Margaret worked in the school lunch room from 1961 to 1967. She did the bookkeeping for Lynn's Surge business and was also the bookkeeper for Lowell's Electric from 1976 to 1983. Margaret left her home and moved into the Luana Apartment complex in 1993. She became a resident of the Good Samaritan Center in Postville two years ago.

Margaret loved her family and kept in touch by telephone and even sent messages by E-mail. When she was able, one of her favorite things to do was to make a favorite dish and share it with friends and neighbors in their time of need.

She enjoyed making and sending cards to the grandchildren for the various holidays. She made baby quilts for the great grandchildren when they were born and quilts for the grandchildren as they graduated from high school. She loved to work with her hands and continued to do so until she began to lose her eyesight.

She is preceded in death by her parents, her husband, Lynn, who died in 1978, a son Don, who died in 2003, and a brother, Robert Krambeer.

Surviving are her children, Ron (Julie) Hangartner, Solon, IA, Norma (Lyle) Kneeskern, Castalia, IA, Lorna (Ron) Wentz, Menomonee Falls, WI; a daughter-in-law, Sue Hangartner, Loveland, CO; 7 grandchildren: Dan (Lisa) Kneeskern, Larry (Laura) Kneeskern, Jeffrey (Julie) Wentz, Joel (Joan) Wentz, Jerry (Denise) Wentz, Heather Hangartner, Ryan Hangartner; 2 step grandchildren: Letae Stutzman and Ron Pruisman; 11 great grandchildren: Brad Kneeskern, Andrew Kneeskern, Erin Kneeskern, Matthew Kneeskern, Kelsey Wentz, Karley Wentz, Benjamin Wentz, Joshua Wentz, Jacob Wentz, Hunter Wentz, Hannah Wentz; 3 step great grandchildren: Deric Stutzman, Devon Stutzman, Christopher Stutzman; a sister, Donna (Von) Trumblee, Hiawatha, IA; sisters-in-law, Josie Krambeer, and Bernice Hangartner, both of Postville; one niece and two nephews.

Margaret was a lifetime member of ST. John Lutheran Church and the Women of the ELCA in Luana.
